FIRST AID KIT ADVICE

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?

The Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981 states: “An employer shall provide or ensure that they are provided such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first aid to be rendered to his employees if they are injured or become ill at work.”

In Spain the legislation with regard to workplace First Aid Kits can be found in the BOE under Real Decreto 486/1997, de 14 de abril, which stipulates the minimum provision of First Aid material (first aid kits) and other health & safety aspects, including signage, that employers are obliged to provide in the workplace in order to comply with health & safety regulations.

The new first aid kits are now the best guarantee for employers to demonstrate their commitment to meet their legal obligations.

REGULATORY WORKPLACE FIRST AID KITS

First Aid Kits should be kept in an easily accessible location at every place of work. The container should be clearly identified and the contents protected from dust and damp.

Following consultation with the HSE, a new British Standard for workplace first aid kits (BS-8599-1) has now been introduced.

The new kits have been designed by industry experts and include a variety of first aid equipment to reflect the modern workplace. The kits now include additional sensible items such as scissors, adhesive tape, burns dressings and sterile saline wipes.

Available in small, medium and large sizes, these new kits allow an employer to match the needs of their business with the correct first aid provisions.

MOBILE WORKERS

Responsibility for making “adequate provision” does not end at the office or factory exit. Employees who are mobile, working away from base or for any other reason are engaged in company business while out and about, must be included when making first aid provisions.

We supply a range of Travel Kits which contain the basic essentials that should be “readily available” to employees who are tasked with working in any situation away from base. Particularly appropriate for use in HGV’s, vans, trucks and regular cars in commercial use.

BIOHAZRD & SHARPS CLEANUP KITS

Our HSE approved Biohazard Clean Up Kits contain everything required in one simple pack to enable safe and correct cleanup and disposal after a workplace incident offering an efficient, simple stepped approach to Biohazard control. Each kit contains individual applications with everything required to deal with an incident, all in one simple pack. Simple to grab, Simple to use, Simple to destroy.

We also offer specialised Sharps disposal kits, which provide essential handling equipment to enable the safe disposal of sharps while offering complete protection for employees.
